Sea Defences
Coastal Management - Sea Defences
There are many ways to manage coastal defences please visit the website below for a description of a few of the defences that can be chosen to defend the beaches and cliffs. Or, of course, Government could spend some of the dredging revenue to build the beach back up by pumping sand from off shore or bringing it from elsewhere....!

Picture shows the large rocks that were placed in front of the cliffs at California and up to Scratby. These can be said to be a temporary defence but have seemed to be reliable over the last few years and are generally thought to be effective up to and perhaps beyond 50 years. Perhaps they should be extended to protect the beach and cliffs of Scratby as well!

Reefs have been built at Sea Palling 90 degrees to the shoreline. By spacing the reefs sand began to fill back to the beach thus providing protection leaving gaps between the reefs.
